NGO WOMEN plus took part in the round table meeting as experts on gender issues.
“Dnipro Academy of Continuing Education” DNipropetrovsk Regional Council together with the Department of Education and Science of the Regional State Administration, the NGO “Two Shores” and the international training platform in the field of health and well-being EduHub at the UNESCO Institute held a round table meeting. As an expert on issues of gender policy and implementation of regional programs, Liliia Hyrenko took part in the meeting. UNESCO proposes to develop educational programs on the basis of a number of basic concepts, among which the priority is “Understanding gender”, which is generally not sufficiently disclosed within educational programs.
Since 2015, the public organization “WOMEN plus” has been working to ensure that the concept of “gender equality” moves from a theoretical level to a practical one in our society. The non-governmental organization published two gender portraits of our region, at the final stage – the publication of the third portrait: they record gender indicators (quantitative and qualitative indicators), which are used for gender audit, gender budgeting, etc. For children of grades 1-5 has been published a coloring book “Gender in Pictures”, with the help of which children learn about the concept of gender equality in a language accessible to them – through pictures, clear textual explanations of stereotypes of appearance, behavior, games, choosing professions, etc. Also was held contest for an animated film and a video among children and youth on the topic of gender equality.
We believe that, along with other tasks, it is especially important to provide the audience with the knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes that will allow them to maintain their own health, well-being and dignity, build respectful relationships, understand the impact of decisions on their own and others’ well-being, and to understand and be able to protect one’s own rights during one’s life.
