Is there an algorithm of actions that need to be addressed (short-term, medium-term and long-term needs)?
What happens to the bearers of intangible cultural heritage (ICH)?
How are the elements of the ICH preserved in Ukraine?
These and other issues were discussed during an online coordination meeting in support of the protection of the ICH of Ukraine.
It was organized by Tim Curtis, Secretary of the Convention on the ICH Protection.
According to UNESCO experts, the protection of the ICH in conflict situations is primarily related to the protection of life and well-being of its bearers. Therefore, in order to create a network of support for communities and media, exchange existing needs and expectations, proposals in the short and medium term, this meeting was organized.
Among about 50 participants were stakeholders from Ukraine and countries hosting Ukrainian refugees, including Romania, Slovenia, Poland, and Moldova.
From Ukraine participated:
representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine,
Alexander Butsenko, Director of the Center for Development “Democracy through Culture”, facilitator of the UNESCO Global Network,
Valentyna Demyan, Deputy Director of the above-mentioned center, Head of the Department of Scientific Coordination and Information Activities of NAMU,
Mykola Shkryblyak, specialist of the Bukovyna Center of Culture and Arts, Master of folk embroidery, Easter painting, Honored Artist of Ukraine, journalist, teacher, ethnographer,

During the meeting, representatives of non-governmental organizations from Ukraine voiced the following proposals, which Tim Curtis proposed to submit in writing:
– Reduce bureaucracy (list of documents required for filling in and submitting documents, their approvals) when filling in cards when including ICH elements in the national letter (list).
– pay more attention to the protection of elements and their research.
– Increase the number of educational programs for practical knowledge.
– Initiate a separate list of heritage that could be destroyed during the war. That such a list was valid for a short time.
These are the most important steps that need to be taken now.
