Supporting the Bearers of Cossack Songs of Dnipropetrovsk Region

#ICH despite all challenges
We visited Pavlohrad district, the village of Kocherizhky ☝️ – home to the members of the ensemble “Pershotsvit”, one of the three UNESCO-recognized groups that preserve the tradition of Cossack songs of Dnipropetrovsk region 🇺🇦.
The ensemble’s leader, Volodymyr Kravchenko, shared the history of Kocherizhky, which dates back to the Cossack era of the 18th century ☝️.
This land has always been special: monks and Cossacks lived here, and the legendary Chumak trade route passed nearby. Perhaps that is why such extraordinary people live here today – people who, despite all difficulties, continue to preserve folk songs, traditions, and respect for their ancestors. Songs accompany them everywhere – at home, in the yard, at work, and during rest. They are passed down from generation to generation.
And it’s not only “Pershotsvit” that sings Cossack songs in Kocherizhky, but also the “Liubava” ensemble, the “Lileia” trio, and the children’s group “Pereveslo”.
This time, we were invited to Kocherizhky by our colleague Iryna Fomenko 🤝. Thanks to her commitment and the support of the charitable foundation “Tvoie Zavtra”, the ensemble received a modern and powerful laptop to store recordings of songs, photos, and videos. This technical tool will also support their live performances and participation in online events.
☝️ In addition, this year the ensemble will receive another deputy’s subvention from our colleague Liliia Gyrenko, which is planned to be used for purchasing sound equipment.
