Forum in Mykolaiv

Elena Terekhova represented our NGO at a two-day forum in Mykolaiv dedicated to adult education.
The event became a platform for discussing new challenges and opportunities in adult learning, which has become particularly relevant in the context of the country’s recovery.
Mykolaiv, designated the Capital of Adult Education in 2023, continues to set trends in this field, actively engaging local communities and international partners. Special attention was given to how education helps adults integrate into society and acquire new professional skills necessary for growth in the face of contemporary challenges.
The forum brought together experts from across Ukraine and served as a platform for exchanging experiences with European partners, who shared their successful practices. For example:
Representatives from Germany talked about folk universities (VHS), offering a wide range of programs for adults — from professional development to personal growth.
Participants from Denmark and Northern Ireland shared models for integrating formal and non-formal education, which allow reaching as many people as possible across different ages and professional backgrounds.
In addition to theoretical discussions, participants visited local educational studios where adults learn cooking, digital skills, sewing, and even engage in art therapy and pottery. Such projects help people not only gain new knowledge but also provide support during challenging life situations.
The event was organized by DVV International Ukraine, the Ukrainian Association for Adult Education, and several other organizations actively working in education and community development. This emphasizes once again the importance of supporting educational initiatives for the country’s recovery.
