National Day of the Republic of Austria

This Saturday, October 26, the Republic of Austria celebrates its National Day. It was on this day in 1955 that the Austrian Declaration of Neutrality was adopted — a fundamental value of the country’s foreign policy. This followed the departure of foreign troops on October 25, 1955, who had been stationed in Austria since the end of World War II. Thus, this day symbolizes freedom and peaceful life, which Austrians had long aspired to — something we deeply relate to today.
Every year on October 26, numerous official commemorative ceremonies take place across Austria. Museums welcome visitors with free guided tours, some government institutions open their doors to the public, and Austrian embassies host ceremonial receptions.
On the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Austria, several events were held.
First, on the initiative of our colleague Iryna Fomenko, Head of the PR Department of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Austria in Dnipro, and with the support of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Scientific Library (Nadiia Titova), a round table discussion titled “National Day of the Republic of Austria” took place. It was interesting, informative, and delicious!
Second, the Austrian Cultural Studies Club has now been opened in the Foreign Literature Department of the library.
Third, in honor of the holiday, the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council opened its doors to representatives of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Austria in Dnipro.
So there will be even more opportunities to learn about this remarkable country.
