Legends of Dnipropetrovsk region. Contest is over

We are proud of our involvement in the history’ reproduction of the native land! It’s so cool – to study legends, learn about new objects, meet unique people.

The competition received more than 160 stories from 73 museums and libraries in 19 districts and 12 cities of the region. Themes of legends range from the origins of villages to the mysteries of natural objects. There are legends of ancient times, and there are those that have emerged recently. But each of these legends deserves attention.

The competition commission, which included historians, museum workers, librarians, representatives of the humanitarian department of the regional council and ME “Representation of Prydniprovia”, selected the 15 best legends and stories, which are now posted on the page “Tourism for all tastes” of regional tourist site http://tourism.dp.gov.ua

The first place in the competition was taken by the Orlivshanska library of the Pishchanka village council with the legend “On the origin of the name of the river Samara”.

Second place – Central City Library of Marhanets with the legend “Mary’s Willow”.

Third place – Tomakivka Central Library with the legend “Whether it’s a cuff or a poppy.”

Other finalists of the competition received prizes of “spectator sympathies” from the Dnipropetrovsk National Historical Museum named after D. Yavornytsky, Dnipropetrovsk Regional Scientific Library, First Slavic teachers Cyril and Methodius and from the Center of Folk Art “Dyvokrai”.

This competition only slightly rejected the veil of secrets of the history of Dnipropetrovsk region. There are many more discoveries ahead. Together we recreate and create the history of our region!
