Yuliia Pischanska, Head of the Yavornytskyi Historical Museum and Tetyana Shaparenko, Head of the Dnipro Art Museum, together with Regional Council Member Liliia Hyrenko, visited the Mykolaivka painting workshop.
The Mykolaivka painting is another bright highlight of the intangible cultural heritage of the Dnipropetrovsk region. It is distinguished by its special identity and at the same time organically continues the folk traditions of the Prisamaria region.
Mykolaivka residents say that their painting is more than 300 years old. It is unique in its technology – flat writing, drawing superimposed on drawing, color on color.
Chests painted with this painting are witnesses to the talent of the masters. There are several dozen of them left in the Novomoskovsk district. The oldest is more than 200 years old.
The Mykolaivka painting is the second after the Petrikivka painting, characteristic of our region, which requires detailed study and preservation.
In order to reproduce and preserve this unique form of art, many measures are taken. These are master classes, exhibitions, and seminars. On the initiative of the director of the Mykolaivka House of Culture, Inna Pryimenko, in 2019, community residents created murals with Mykolaivka painting in the form of chests.
Residents of Novomoskovsk and Dnipro joined their flash mob.
In 2020, murals were painted on the playground and in the center of Mykolaivka itself.
Also, with the participation of craftswoman Maryna Golovko and her students, a local history room was opened in the Mykolaivka House of Culture, where more than 60 different products painted with murals were placed. There are also some “St. Nicholas” chests.
In 2021, this element became the winner of the regional cultural project “Intangible cultural heritage of Dnipropetrovsk Region”.
In order to preserve this original culture, regional council deputy, chairwoman of the NGO “WOMEN plus” Liliia Hyrenko allocated a deputy subvention for the creation of a creative workshop in the community. This initiative was joined by the local authorities, who want as many people as possible to learn about the beauty of Mykolaivka.
From now on, master classes on Mykolaivka painting will be held in the creative workshop, and the secrets of painting will be passed on.
According to the Heads of historical and art museums, who arrived at the invitation of the deputy, this element needs not only preservation and popularization, but also detailed study. After all, until now the unique chests and drawings with “Mykolaivka” have not been studied by experts.
The historical and cultural heritage of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast is extremely rich. It hides many more secrets that we reveal to the world together.
