Our colleague Liliia Hyrenko, as a contact person from the region, responsible for the protection of the “Cossack’s Songs of Dnipropetrovsk Region” element of the National Cultural Heritage, took part in the second coordination meeting to support the protection of the intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine (National Cultural Heritage of Ukraine).
The UNESCO Secretariat on the 2003 Convention acted as the organizer of the dialogue among the carriers of the ICH elements, representatives of civil society, cultural centers from Ukraine, as it did a year ago.
The meeting was opened by Tim Curtis, Secretary of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and Kateryna Chuyeva, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. The attention of the participants was focused on the need to assess the needs of preserving Ukrainian living heritage in communities, expanding the circle of representatives of Ukrainian culture in other countries of the world (in particular, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia), implementing measures and projects aimed at preserving cultural heritage and supporting media elements of the ICH.
The possibility of financing protection projects and measures from the UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund was also mentioned separately.
